Channels: how players are spread across the world
- Every zone is split into channels — separate copies of the zone. A typical channel holds about 100 players. XLGAMES says this is a design choice, not a server limit: busy enough to feel alive, never crowded.
- You don’t pick your channel; the game places you. Parties stay together when moving between zones, and you can hop over to a friend’s channel.
- Dungeons and some points of interest are instanced just for you or your party, so nobody can run in and steal a boss or a story moment.
Peace vs Conflict (PvP) channels
| Peace (standard) channel | Conflict (PvP) channel | |
|---|---|---|
| Can other players attack you? | No | Yes — everyone except your party and guild |
| Monsters and quests | Same zone, same content | Same zone, same content |
| Monster EXP | Normal | +10–15% (still being tuned) |
| How to enter | Default | Switch at a Nui Statue — with a cooldown |
Monster kills are only a small part of your EXP (most comes from quests and exploration — see how progression works), so the PvP bonus is modest. The developers want people in PvP channels because they enjoy it, not because it’s mandatory for leveling.
Rewards and what’s planned
- Right now: no loot or currency for killing players. You get a kill log and PvP achievements.
- After launch (likely): rankings and trophies — “bragging rights”, not gear.
- Further out (ideas, not promises): trade runs through PvP channels and guilds fighting to take and hold trade posts — a nod to the original ArcheAge’s tense trade runs. XLGAMES stresses this is early planning.
Tips from the developers’ own PvP
- Parry ranged attacks — a successful parry can reflect projectiles back at the shooter. The Creative Director names this as one of the most fun parts of fighting a hatchet Ranger.
- For Early Access, disarming with Parry costs less durability, and several skills were rebalanced (Wall of Fire damage reduced, Wavesword and Longbow Fire Arrow reworked, Warhammer and Hatchet tuned) — see classes and weapons.
- All four classes and both of their weapons were playable in PvP in the demo, so try different setups.
